brushes Posted by elis Thursday, 2010-April-01 I have recently had many clients interested in boar bristle hair brushes. The good ones are expensive and are a benefit if you have the right type of hair. Boar bristle hair brushes are best for long hair that is not washed but once or twice a week. You have seen the old movies where they brush the hair 100 times to keep it healthy and get to rapunzel like lengths?
This type of brush redistributes the oils from the scalp and moves it through to the ends where the oils help keep the hair healthy. They also pick up the dirt dust and debris that collects in the hair. When using this type of brush to clean your hair, it is important to remove tangles first. Then start at the scalp and work to the ends. This results in smoother, healthier hair that is soft and manageable. Increasing the blood flow to the scalp has been linked to stimulating hair growth and creating thicker, longer hair as well. It is important to clean these brushes properly. Simply run it under water and occasionally soak in shampoo and rinse.
Most women wash every day or every other day now. This makes the hair dry and a boar hair brush will only damage the hair. There is nothing to clean and no oils to distribute so this brush will tear it up and waste money! I recommend a ceramic round brush for smoothing or curling and cushion brush for regular use.
The cushion brush is designed to be gentle on hair and scalp. It is great for daily use as it only has one bristle to each hole as opposed to two like the vent brushes do, which can pull the hair. This is a great every day brush for anyone. The cushion has give so it does not tear up fine or thinning hair. Paddle cushion brushes are bigger for thicker and longer hair. Once the paint on the ends come off it is time to replace these. They tip the ends to give extra protection from hair breakage.
Round brushes used with hair dryers, round brushes are designed to add curl, curve and volume to straight hair, as well as to straighten wavy or curly hair. Get the right size for your hair type and the look that you want to achieve. If you have trouble using a round brush, Hot Tools makes a hot air brush. This blow dryer/ round brush combo makes it easier to do by the hot air coming out of the round brush.
Clean your brushes regularly. Scrubbing bubbles is a quick and effective way to clean and sanitize your brush with no damage. The foam lifts debris and hair product build up as well as bacteria and germs. Sounds funny, I know, but this really works great. If you do not get product build up on the brush, shampoo and rinse will work just fine.
Remember, replace your brush when you see that the bristles are bent, missing ends, or padding is loose.
A Better Hair Year Posted by elis Monday, 2010-February-01
This economy is helping us to realize that we need to budget better and use our resources properly. I am going to focus on how to help everyone achieve these goals.
January is a great time to clean out the products and brushes that are either old or gone bad. You know what I mean, the gel that has fallen and oozed out, then left to congeal in one hard mass with some rubber bands at the bottom of your drawer! Or how about that brush with 3 sad bristles left?
It is important to have what you need and get rid of the rest. Minimizing makes it easier and more time efficient. Figure out what your style needs are to be efficient and effective for your hair first. If you are not sure, please consult with me and I will do an evaluation to see how this would best work for you. Then throw away stuff that has gone bad and give away what you will not use to those who might need them. This is why I guarantee all my products. If you have one that does not work for you, bring it back for an exchange for one that will be better or a refund.
Fashon update! Posted by elis Friday, 2010-January-01
While the girls are going more classic in style and there are no big fashion divas to emulate, the boys are picking up the slack. Stars like Zac Efan are inspiring them to care about their hair in a way that has not been exhibited since the 1980’s.
Women are taking to a bit more fullness in their styling and a strong bang is back. What looks best on you as an individual is what will work best for your style. Imagine all the possibilities and lets create a personal image.

HOW DO YOU SHAMPOO? Posted by elis Sunday, 2009-November-01 Interestingly enough, many people do not understand how to shampoo their hair. Just take a handful of shampoo, blop it on the top of your head and attempt to spread it around is typical. Unfortunately this not only wastes shampoo but it also does not cleanse effectively. The best method is to take a dime size amount of professional shampoo (more is needed for market products) and massage it in your hands first. Spread shampoo through scalp area. Massage through scalp. Ends of hair do not typically get oily, so rinse thoroughly and ends will be refreshed. Conditioner is important to the health of your scalp and hair. When applying conditioner consider your needs. If you are oily, use a miniscule amount and apply to ends only. If you are dry massage all the way through. If your hair is long and dry or tangles on the ends, work conditioner from the ends up applying more where it is needed. Remember that professional products are more concentrate. Less product is needed to get great results. Most products in the market are of low quality and do not protect hair color as well as professional products do. Their money goes into flashy commercials and packaging and what is inside is secondary. Most are diluted and in the long run you do not save money because you have to use more to work properly. I have worked hard to find products that suit my clients needs. The highest quality to protect color and keep hair at its optimal health is what I provide. In order to stay competitive so that you do not need to go to the beauty supply, I discount most of my products from 10 –20%. I have discovered that some go to the supply house and while their price may be good, they don't always give my client what is best for their hair type.
STATIC Posted by elis Tuesday, 2009-September-01
Is Static raising your hair?
Straight hair needs products just as much as curly hair to combat static. When you get out of the shower, blot dry hair do not rub vigorously. spritz with a volumizing or thickening spray like Serie Expert Densite and a thermal protecting spray from Goldwell inner Effects. These do not weigh the hair down or leave it sticky.
If your hair is more thick and course, Serie Expert has the Fluid Intense that controls defiant frizz. If curly frizz is a problem then the Serie Spiral Extreme will lock and smooth. These will maximize the effects of blow-drying with an ionic dryer (which dries twice as fast as a traditional blow dryer, and reduces heat damage). A soft rubber based brush or a ceramic round brush with short bristles will also make straight hair smooth and shiny.
For those stray flyaways, finish your style with a dab of finishing lotion such as Serie Expert Architecture or Lumi. This adds hold, but, unlike hairspray, won’t make your hair sticky or tacky. If you have a lot of flyaways or frizz, gently rub a dryer sheet over the top of your hair. As long as you don’t do this frequently (too many times can leave air greasy) it’s a great quick fix for frizzies.
If your hair is very dry rub a small amount of shampoo into your scalp and roots, and rinse. If your hair is flat or oily condition the ends only. Once a week use a deep conditioner too all parts of your hair except the roots unless your scalp is dry. The new Dual Senses from Goldwell is a one minute masque treatment that really works if you don't have the time at home.

Haircare Posted by elis Saturday, 2009-August-01 Product Knowledge:
Part of my success in this industry is also your success. I use and provide the best products available for your hair. I can only cut and color your hair with the best available products, the maintenance is up to you. Great care can make styling easier and better looking in between salon visits.
All of the products I recommend have the gentlest of the surfactants to protect hair from damage and keep color fresh longer.
The difference in professional hair care and chain store bought products are the ingredients and the amount of them, as well as the amount and type of advertising. Because professional products are referred by stylists, there is less to no advertising. What goes in the bottle is more important to us than packaging and advertising.
Market products like Pantene are popular, but are very bad for your hair in my opinion. Pantene leaves heavy deposits of a silicone like substance on your hair which will eventually cause static and buildup. In addition, these cleansers are stronger and will pull the color molecules right out of the hair. Not so bad if your hair is virgin, real bad if you just spent money on a good hair color!
As a reminder I do have on hand at all times, the top of the line professional hair care products that will maintain your color & perm services. The professional products I have will help maintain your color services in between visits. This provides long lasting results you will be happy with.
Now for the best news! I also guarantee my products. If you try something that does not work then you just bring it back for exchange or refund! Every ones hair reacts differently to things and sometimes it takes more than one try to find the perfect match.
